In this letter, Rachmaninoff
informs Mandrovsky that he sends two signed checks, copies and accounts at
"City Bank Farmers," and asks Mandrovsky to write a check for this
account, and some documents regarding his taxes. At the end of the
letter, SR writes about two concerts he played two days ago at the
Hollywoood Bowl. SR jokes that besides two checks which he received
for these concerts, he also "earned lumbago". Now he can hardly
move, and when he does, his posture reminds him of a "comma". SR
concludes that he was rightly punished and says, "one should not take
bread away from young pianists and go where, at his age, he should not
go."
